Anthoney Tetreault was the workhouse for the Killingly High School football team Friday night, rushing for 95 yards on 23 carries in a 48-7 victory over Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech.
It was the first win of the season for the Redmen (1-6, 1-2 ECC Small), who snapped a six-game losing streak.
“Tetreault sparked us right from the beginning,” said Killingly coach Chad Neal, whose team led 22-7 at the half. “He had a great game. He told the coaches to give him the football.”
Killingly dominated the second half, outscoring the visiting Tigers, 26-0. Following Robert Justiniano’s interception, Redmen quarterback D.J. Grimes opened the second-half scoring on a four-yard keeper around the left side midway through the third period.
Just before the end of the quarter, Grimes struck again — this time in the air — when he hit tight end Drew Wilcox on a nine-yard pass across the middle.
Justiniano (four carries, 61 yards) scored on a 14 yard run in the fourth quarter, and freshman T.J. Stucke added the final points on a three-yard run.
“I’m proud of our kids,” Neal said. “They played hard throughout and made the big plays when we needed them.”
Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech’s (0-5, 0-3) lone score came in the second quarter when quarterback Justin Girourard, who was the main thrust of the Tigers’ offense, scored on a one-yard sneak.
The two schools joined together to raise money for the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Fund.
